This course is designed for entry-level personnel with little or no formal training in wildland fire suppression. These courses provide the basic knowledge and skills necessary to become qualified as a wildland firefighter. The curriculum includes: wildfire terminology and effects of fuel, weather, and topography on wildland fire. Fireline safety; fireline construction; helicopter safety; fire physics and an introduction to the Incident Command System. The use of basic firing equipment such as fusees and drip torches; and an introduction to wildland tools, pumps, engines, and hoses will all be covered during the field days. Some prerequisite training may apply.
